SYNOPSIS

In 1971 Roberto Rossellini (Yes, that Rossellini) travels to Chile to interview the newly elected Salvador Allende and while there he realizes that something serious is being prepared against the new socialist government of the Unidad Popular. Upon his return he convinces his young Spanish collaborator Miguel to infiltrate and document what is happening in Chile. With funding from Rossellini and the GDR, which provides equipment, Miguel poses as a Spanish filmmaker who wants to document the horrors of the “savage communism of the Allende regime”. He befriends the upper classes and the military whom he interviews and manages to document the preparation of a coup d’état. After the coup, Miguel continues his work and manages to interview Pinochet, who authorizes him to travel to the non-existent concentration camps. Thus he manages to document the existence of the disappeared and denounce the true face of the regime, presenting the film in Rome during the sessions of the Russell II tribunal, freeing hundreds of them from torture and certain death.
