The CIIF Market delves into the strength of the Canary Islands’ audiovisual model with two panels on financing and international co-production.
- The Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market) will hold two key sessions next Tuesday, October 28, at the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey Hotel (Nivaria Room), dedicated to analyzing the pillars driving the growth of the audiovisual industry in the Canary Islands: its financial and fiscal environment, and its international co-production capacity.
- Organized in collaboration with the Tenerife Film Commission and the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster for the first, and again with the Tenerife Film Commission for the second, both events will offer a complementary view of how the Islands have established themselves as a strategic territory for film and series, thanks to a unique economic framework in Europe, a growing business community, and an ecosystem of highly qualified talent.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, October 24, 2025. The Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market), whose 21st edition will be held from October 27 to 31 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, will host two key panels that will focus on the factors driving the development of the Canarian audiovisual sector: financing and international co-production.
Under the titles “Producing in the Canary Islands: The Keys to the Financial System” and “Case Study: International Co-productions in the Canary Islands,” both events will bring together experts, production companies, and institutional representatives to analyze, from a practical perspective, how the Canary Islands have established themselves as a strategic territory for film and series thanks to their competitive tax framework, their growing professional ecosystem, and their ability to attract and generate productions with international reach.
Tuesday, October 28 / 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Hotel Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey (Salón Nivaria)
The event “Producing in the Canary Islands: The Keys to the Financial Framework” will focus on the opportunities offered by the archipelago’s fiscal and financial framework, considered one of the most advantageous in Europe for audiovisual production.
The session will bring together experts from the legal, banking, and institutional fields, who will analyze in a practical way how companies in the sector can optimize the incentives of the Economic and Fiscal Regime (REF) and access available financing and public support mechanisms.
Participating will be Carmen Aguado, partner in the Audiovisual Law practice at Écija Abogados; Fernando Rodríguez, director of Corporate Banking at Bankinter; and José Ramón Barrera, advisor to the Commissioner for the Economic and Tax Regime of the Canary Islands (Government of the Canary Islands).

Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey Hotel (Nivaria Room)
The Canary Islands are increasingly consolidating their position as a strategic destination for international film and series. Thanks to their competitive tax incentives, diverse natural locations, and the sustained growth of their professional network, the archipelago has become a benchmark for large-scale productions.
The panel “Case Study: International Co-productions in the Canary Islands” will analyze two successful models that reflect the maturity of the audiovisual sector in the Canary Islands, through the experience of Volcano Films, one of the most established production companies in the Canary Islands, with more than 30 years of experience and participation in some of the most notable international productions filmed in the archipelago.
The event, whose panelists will be Sebastián Álvarez, CEO and producer of Volcano Films, and Alejandro Álamo, a producer from the same company, will propose a dialogue around two complementary case studies that illustrate the different ways in which the Canary Islands can integrate into the global production ecosystem: an international production shot with tax incentives under the service model; and a Spanish co-production with its own financing structure through an AIE. The session will be moderated by Ricardo Martínez, director of the Tenerife Film Commission.
The second case is the feature film The Hive, co-produced by Volcano Films with the German production company augenschein Filmproduktion. Filmed in Tenerife in the summer of 2025 and directed by Martín Rosete, this action thriller consolidates a new step for international co-production from the Canary Islands.
