- Actor William Levy, director Martín Cuervo, and actress Claudia Álvarez participated in a meeting with the public during the special screening of the film, shot in Tenerife, and presented the second part, “Under a Fire,” whose filming has just concluded on the island.
One of the most anticipated moments of the closing night of the Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market) was the special screening of the film “Under a Volcano,” which was attended by its star William Levy, director Martín Cuervo, and actress Claudia Álvarez, co-star of the second part, “Under a Fire,” whose filming ended this week in Tenerife.
The screening, celebrated with warm applause from the audience at the Espacio Price in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, brought together professionals from the audiovisual sector, institutions and invited public, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and recognition towards a project that has made the island its main filming location and source of inspiration.
“Under a Volcano” is an international co-production that combines drama and action, set in diverse natural and urban landscapes of Tenerife. The film has showcased the archipelago’s variety of locations, solidifying the Canary Islands as a top-tier natural film set.
During the event, the protagonist William Levy thanked the public and the island for their hospitality, highlighting his connection with the environment and the local team:
“Filming in Tenerife has been a wonderful experience. The people here have incredible energy; they welcomed us with open arms, and that comes through in every shot of the film. I am so grateful for the audience’s affection and for all the support we’ve received from the Canary Islands community. Without you, none of this would be possible.”
For his part, director Martín Cuervo highlighted the high professional level of the local technical teams and the role that the Canary Islands plays in the growth of Spanish and international audiovisual production:
“Working in Tenerife has been an extraordinary experience. The infrastructure, the landscapes, and above all, the human talent here, make it possible to produce films of international quality. The Islands offer everything a film shoot needs, and I think this film is proof of that.”
Actress Claudia Álvarez, co-star of “Under a Fire”, added that filming on the island has been “a unique opportunity to connect with an environment that conveys strength and beauty”.
“The landscape of Tenerife is almost another character in the story,” he explained. “Every day of filming was a discovery: each place brings a different emotion. Tenerife has magic, and the audience will feel it on screen.”
The director of CIIF Market, Guillermo Ríos, highlighted the importance of films like “Under a Volcano” and “Under a Fire” being presented within the framework of the market, as an example of projects that strengthen the audiovisual fabric of the Archipelago.
“This special screening is a testament to what the CIIF Market has strived for since its inception: that projects conceived or developed here become real works, generating employment, visibility, and culture,” Ríos noted. “Seeing internationally renowned actors and directors present their work in Tenerife demonstrates the appeal and potential of our islands as a filming and co-production destination.”
