Eduardo Campoy receives the CIIF Market Award – Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society
The producer receives recognition for his determined commitment to the industry in the Archipelago from the councillor of the Development Society of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Carmen Pérez, in an event that was a great success with the public.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, October 16, 2024. The Víctor cinema in the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosted this Monday the presentation of the CIIF Market 2024 Award – Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society to the producer Eduardo Campoy and the subsequent special screening, for the first time and open to the public, of his latest film produced in the Canary Islands, Padres. The event, with a full capacity in the room, was also attended by the actors of the film Fernando Cayo, Carlos Fuentes and Angelina Stoian; in addition to the technical team, headed by its director of photography, Roberto Ríos.
Pilar Rumeu, master of ceremonies, led a simple event in which a review of the 20 years of the Canary Islands International Film Market was made; and the producer’s career. “He has produced box office hits such as The Best Summer of My Life, Until the Wedding Separates Us, Super Agent Makey, Mom or Dad or Just Once. His career highlights the production of more than ninety films, some as well-known as Un franco 14 pesetas or La niña de tus ojos. Many of them have obtained countless recognitions in different national and international film festivals, such as 92 nominations and 20 Goya Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2023 he received the Gold Medal of the Forqué Awards in recognition of his career and his passion for cinema. In 6 years, Campoy has shot 13 films in the Canary Islands and has 5 more productions in the pipeline for the remainder of 2024 and 2025. A real commitment to the industry in our islands.”
Eduardo Campoy went up on stage to unanimous applause from the audience and later received the honorary director of CIIF Market, Teodoro Ríos; the current director of the market, Guillermo Ríos, and the advisor of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, who presented the award, a sculpture that reproduces the image of this year’s market.
Campoy thanked the award, recalling that the islands are a special place for him: “I produced Guarapo more than thirty years ago, and since then my relationship with the Archipelago has not ceased to intensify. When I began to shoot in the Islands on a regular basis, we started with 50% Canary and mainland crews. Today, 90% of the crews on my shoots are Canary, because there is the necessary specialisation and professionalism.”
Later, the guests, protagonists and professionals of the latest film produced by Campoy in Tenerife, Padres, took the stage. One after another, Fernando Cayo, Carlos Fuentes, Angelina Stoian and Roberto Ríos thanked Campoy for his work and congratulated the market on its twentieth anniversary.
On Thursday, October 17, CIIF Market will present the second CIIF Market Development Society of Santa Cruz de Tenerife award to Canarian producer Chano Álvarez, from Volcano Films, and will screen Lo Carga el Diablo, in a new free screening for the public.
