The Director and Cast of Parents

Following the award ceremony, there will be a special free screening of the film Padres, one of the three latest productions filmed on the island in the last 10 months.

The market is also sponsored by the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands and has the collaboration of numerous entities.

The renowned film producer Eduardo Campoy will be the first person to receive the newly created CIIF Market 2024 – Santa Cruz de Tenerife Development Society award, an award that will be given to relevant people in the audiovisual sector who have firmly supported the industry in the Canary Islands. The award is sponsored by the Development Society of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, which aims to bring the Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market), which will take place from October 10 to 18 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, even closer to the public. This year, the veteran market celebrates its twentieth edition as a meeting point for European producers, distributors, and investors, with the aim of promoting financing and stimulating the international co-production of film and audiovisual projects aimed at the global market.

CIIF Market also seeks to contribute to the revitalization of the industry by attracting national and international companies and promoting meetings with Canarian producers. In short, creating synergies between creatives, producers, television channels, distributors, sales agents and other professionals to encourage film and audiovisual creation and promote their internationalisation.

The award ceremony, attended by Eduardo Campoy, will take place on October 14 at 8:30 p.m. at the Víctor cinema in the capital of Chicharrera, where immediately afterwards there will be a special screening of Padres, one of the film’s latest productions on the island. The film’s technical and artistic team, led by actors Fernando Cayo and Carlos Fuentes, and its director of photography Roberto Ríos, will be present at the event. The event is public and free, but to enter you must purchase your ticket on the EVENTBRITE platform.

CIIF Market is an activity organised by Festeam, Communication and Events, sponsored by the Tenerife Island Council, Department of Culture, Museums and Sports; the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, through the Development Society; and the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development, Canary Islands Film and PROEXCA; with the collaboration of Tourism of Tenerife, through the Tenerife Film Commission; the Audiovisual Cluster of the Canary Islands and Macaronesia Films, among other entities.

Parents

The film begins when a recently divorced couple reunites in the chalet that was once their home to begin the search for their daughter. The investigation becomes mysterious and desperate when they discover that the location of the cell phone places her outside of Spain.

The film, starring Fernando Cayo (Money Heist), Natalia Verbeke (Everyone Lies), Carlos Fuentes (Invasion) and Angelina Stoian, is directed and written by José Ángel Bohollo, nominated for the Goya Award for Best New Director for Ciénaga; Roberto Ríos is in charge of photography, Miguel Herrera is in charge of sound, and Mario de Benito will put music to a fast-paced, exciting story with touches of irony.

During the last year, he has adapted Guillem Clua’s work La Bandera, directed by Martín Cuervo and starring Imanol Arias, Aitor Luna, Miquel Fernández and Ana Álvarez, and Invasión, the second film by the executive producer with David Martín-Porras.
