Atresmedia Cine seeks “stories that impact” at CIIF Market 2018

Atresmedia Cine is looking for talent and impressive projects to produce among the 10 unpublished projects selected by the organization of the Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market) . This film market, one of the most outstanding in the sector with 15 years of experience under its belt, has as a priority objective to promote contact between producers and creatives.

The event is held between March 7 and 10 at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Thursday saw the first informal networking meeting between the producers and the directors of the projects. “We are very happy and satisfied with the start of this fifteenth edition of CIIF Market . In the mini pitching there was a very good reception of the projects. Atresmedia Cine is very interested in all the projects. And, for their part, new producers are assessing that we are growing. There are very interesting projects and with many possibilities of getting ahead,” said Guillermo Ríos, director of the CIIF Market.

An intense day of work began this Friday with the exclusive conference offered by the producers of Atresmedia Cine José Torrescusa and Rosa María Pérez, responsible for the production of projects as important and recent as “Palm trees in the snow”, “La Isla Mínima” or “Cuerpo de Élite”. Both shared the experience of Atresmedia Cine in terms of the different co-production models that they apply to their projects and how they deal with financing in each case.

Atresmedia Cine made nine premieres in 2017 that raised more than 31 million euros and for 2018 14 film premieres are expected, although there is still some project in the pipeline according to Torrescusa. Regarding the selection of projects, Rosa María Pérez affirmed that “there is nothing defined to choose the projects. If you don’t have a producer, it doesn’t matter. If we love the project, we will find a way to move it forward. Don’t throw in the towel.”

After the culmination of the conference, the meetings in speed dating format between producers and creatives began. Among which are producers of national and international projection. Worth noting is the participation of Loris Omedes , from Bousan Films , and whose curriculum includes an Oscar nomination in 2004 for the documentary Balseros . Latido Films , specialized in the distribution of Latin American, national or Eastern European fiction and documentary feature films. O Snowglobe Film (Denmark) winner of the Silver Lion in the official competition of the Venice International Film Festival with The Wild Region by Amat Escalante and Golden Leopard in the official competition of Locarno with Gogless by Ralitza Petrova.

Similarly, the market also had the presence of regional producers such as Macaronesia Films, experts above all in advising on the tax benefits offered by the Archipelago and the rental of audiovisual material. This island representation was joined by Radio Televisión Canaria through its Co-Production and Antenna department, which repeated its presence for another year with the aim of continuing to bet on the Canarian product.

This afternoon at 8:30 p.m. at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey, the awards ceremony of the Canary Islands International Film Market will take place.
