Ten unpublished audiovisual projects seek financing at CIIF Market 2018

Ten unpublished audiovisual projects will seek financing starting tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Canary Islands International Film Market (CIIF Market) . This film market, one of the most outstanding in the sector with 15 years of experience under its belt, has as a priority objective to promote contact between producers and creatives. Some global figures that speak for themselves: more than 150 participants, 100 companies and 60 projects from 12 countries in its latest editions guarantee its success. The primary objective: to become a useful tool for the participating projects, facilitating their access and knowledge about the different financing channels.

The event will be held between March 7 and 10 at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Wednesday the 7th will see the arrival of the first national and international project teams and evaluators. The first scheduled public act will be on Thursday 8 with an informal networking meeting between the producers and the directors of the projects that will take place in the Strasse Park, located in the García Sanabria park starting at 8:30 p.m. This act will serve as the first contact between both parties. “We are holding this first meeting because it seems interesting to us to break the ice between the creators and the producers. It is a way of not starting Friday morning from scratch and the experience of past editions confirms that it is a success with regard to the fluidity of the subsequent work meetings”, affirms the director of the CIIF Market, Guillermo Ríos.

The bulk of the program will take place during the day on Friday. The morning will begin with an exclusive conference, starting at 10:00 a.m., offered by the producers of Atresmedia Cine José Torrescusa and Rosa María Pérez . responsible for the production of projects as important and recent as “Palm trees in the snow”, ” La Isla Mínima” or “Cuerpo de Élite”.

It will be during this day when the meetings in speed dating format between producers and creatives take place. This format, imported from the US, is based on the organization of short meetings that promote fluidity and the exchange of ideas between both parties. “What is intended is that it be dynamic at all times. If the project is good, the producers will detect it from the beginning, as long as the management team is capable of transferring that idea,” adds the director of CIIF Market.

Those selected may opt for various awards whose purpose is to promote the development of film production. The categories are: CIIF Market ticket to Cannes, which will be awarded to the project with the greatest international projection and whose winners will be able to enjoy a travel bag of 1,200 euros to encourage participation in this edition of the Marché du Films (Cannes). Another of the categories will be the Canarias Cultura en Red Award for the best Canarian project, which will allow the winners to participate in a sectoral market with international projection. And finally, the Film Market Hub Award, whose winners will be able to enjoy this prestigious platform for free for one year, which will facilitate contact with the main companies in the sector.

Bet on quality

As every year, the CIIF Market has producers of national and international projection. Worth noting is the participation of Loris Omedes , from Bousan Films , and whose curriculum includes an Oscar nomination in 2004 for the documentary Balseros . Latido Films , specialized in the distribution of Latin American, national or Eastern European fiction and documentary feature films. O Snowglobe Film (Denmark) winner of the Silver Lion in the official competition of the Venice International Film Festival with The Wild Region by Amat Escalante and Golden Leopard in the official competition of Locarno with Gogless by Ralitza Petrova. In the same way, the market will also have the presence of regional producers such as Macaronesia Films, experts above all in advising on the tax benefits offered by the Archipelago and the rental of audiovisual material. This island representation is joined by Radio Televisión Canaria through its Co-Production and Antenna department, which repeats its presence for another year with the aim of continuing to bet on the Canarian product.
