Canary Islands International Film Market and the Extreme Script Laboratory isLABentura join forces through a collaboration agreement, through which the winning script of isLABentura is added as a selected project of the XVI edition of CIIF Market, which will begin in a few days in the capital of Tenerife.
IsLABentura is an initiative of La Palma Film Commission, office in charge of promoting and managing resources de la Isla Bonita for the realization of audiovisual projects, entity dependent on the Society for the Promotion and Economic Development of the island of La Palma (Sodepal) and the Department of Tourism of the Island Council of La Palma.
The first edition of IsLABentura was held recently this year and was born as an innovative start-up, with the added value of uniting the history and geography of the island of La Palma and the audiovisual world, from the point of view of the script creators. .
He Laboratory has had a team of prestigious professionals in the world of cinema and television in Spain, such as Javier Olivares, producer Globomedia executive (Mediapro Group); Jordi Calafí, script coordinator for Globomedia; the filmmaker Yolanda García Serrano; and the director, screenwriter and producer Mercedes Afonso, who have assumed the role of guiding and training the participants in the development of their projects.
“Mirando al Mar” has been the winner of the award for best script in the first edition of isLABentura. It is a feature film project written by the screenwriter Mar Franco and tutored by Mercedes Afonso, which tells the story of white widows, women who were abandoned by their husbands after emigrating to Cuba or Venezuela in search of better fortune. Women who raised their children alone and who continued to wait for the return of their husbands who never came back.
He The jury decided on this project because it is a universal history, which must be counted and that underlines the figure of women in a context of emigration in which one always talks about the one who emigrates and not the one who waits.

Through the collaboration agreement signed between CIIF Market and IsLABentura within the framework of the 67th San Sebastian International Film Festival, “Mirando al mar” will participate in a special session as a selected project of the XVI edition of the Canary International Film Market and will have, like the rest of the attendees, a personalized schedule of meetings with potential investors.
From October 8 to 12, the XVI edition of CIIF Market will bring together television channels, producers, distributors, as well as other agents from the film and audiovisual industry in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the aim of becoming a meeting point and business space to explore new financing channels and promote the achievement of projects for the European and international market.
