- This edition will bring together projects from eight countries—Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Portugal—present in the National and International sections; as well as projects participating in the Focus Canary Islands section, consolidating the archipelago as a strategic hub for international co-production between Europe and Latin America.
- The program includes professional workshops, pitching sessions, one-on-one meetings, thematic panels, screenings, training, and networking activities that will make Tenerife the center of international audiovisual media for a week.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, October 21, 2025. The Canary Islands International Film Market officially launched its 21st edition at an event held at Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Hall, with the participation of the city’s mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez; the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez; and the director of CIIF Market, Guillermo Ríos.
During the presentation, the selected projects that will participate in the 2025 edition were announced, as well as the official program for the event, which will be held from October 27 to 31 in the capital of Tenerife.
With more than two decades of experience, CIIF Market has established itself as a strategic meeting point for European producers, distributors, and investors, with the aim of boosting financing and encouraging international co-production of feature films, documentaries, and television series for the global market.
In addition to promoting the internationalization of the sector, CIIF Market has fostered the revitalization of the local industry, connecting national and international companies with Canarian professionals and producers, and generating synergies between creatives, television channels, distributors, sales agents, and other key players in the audiovisual ecosystem.
CIIF Market is organized by Festeam, Communication and Events, and is sponsored by the Tenerife Island Council, through its Department of Culture, Museums, and Sports; the Canary Islands Government, through the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development, Canary Islands Film, and PROEXCA; and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, through the Development Society and Macaronesia Films; with the collaboration of Tenerife Tourism Corporation, through the Tenerife Film Commission; and the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster, among other entities.
José Manuel Bermúdez stated in his appearance: “Next week, our city will become a major stage for national and international production companies to present their projects in search of the necessary funding to launch them. The film industry is a strategic sector for the entire Canary Islands, but our city has taken very seriously its support for both filming and premieres, as well as the presence of crews on our streets.”
“Proof of this are the 47 productions that have already been filmed in our city so far this year. Films, series, commercials, and documentaries have all chosen Santa Cruz to illustrate their stories. We’re on our way to a thousand productions since the Santa Cruz Film Office was created in 2012,” he continued.
For her part, the CEO of the Development Society, Carmen Pérez, indicated that “CIIF Market is an event that has established itself as a strategic space for networking and international co-production for feature-length fiction, documentary, and series or miniseries projects for television or platforms. It seeks to connect producers with potential financial partners, distributors, sales agents, and content managers, with the goal of promoting the financing and global circulation of content.”, and added that “In addition to selecting national and international projects, it also supports Canarian audiovisual talent through the Focus Canary Islands section, consolidating the archipelago as a strategic hub for international co-production between Europe and Latin America.”.
“The program includes professional days, pitching sessions, one-on-one meetings, thematic panels, screenings, training and networking activities that will make Santa Cruz the focus of international audiovisuals for a week,” said Pérez, who added that “the audiovisual sector in Santa Cruz generates employment, proof of this is that from January to September 2025, 11,102 contracts related to the audiovisual sector were signed in the capital of Tenerife, which represents 14 out of every 100 contracts signed in the municipality.”
“The evolution of contracts related to this sector, especially in these last two years, has been very significant within the Santa Cruz labor market,” Pérez emphasized, adding that “the sector has increased its hiring in the capital by 32.5%, and in these 9 months of 2025, there are already more contracts in the audiovisual sector in Santa Cruz than for the entire year 2023 (10,564 contracts),” he stated.
Guillermo Ríos stressed that “The Canary Islands continue to consolidate their position as a strategic hub for international audiovisual creation, co-production, and investment. In these 21 years, CIIF Market has decisively contributed to strengthening the creative and business fabric of the sector, serving as a bridge between Europe and Latin America and positioning the archipelago as a meeting place for talent and opportunities.”
“Each edition reaffirms our commitment to the internationalization of audiovisuals and the promotion of the local industry, connecting producers, distributors, investors, and new voices that are transforming the way we tell stories. We are proud to see how many of the projects that have been presented in the market have become established productions, present at festivals and on screens around the world.”
“We deeply appreciate the support of public institutions, private entities, and industry professionals, whose commitment and trust make this market possible and enrich each edition. Thanks to their collaboration, we continue to build a benchmark for promoting creativity, co-production, and audiovisual innovation from the Canary Islands to the world,” he concluded.
The Canary Islands International Film Market will bring together proposals from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Portugal in Tenerife, with a carefully curated selection of feature film and series projects that reflect the excellence and diversity of Ibero-American and European audiovisual media.
The event focuses on emerging voices in film and audiovisual media, the inclusion of gender and diversity perspectives, and the promotion of international co-productions, with genres ranging from drama and thriller to comedy, horror, and documentary.
