The fictional film “Lo carga el diablo”, the Valencian director’s debut feature film Guillermo Polo, produced by the Polo Brothers, Japonica Films, Volcano International Productions and Batiak Films, with the support of APunt Media, the Valencian Institute of Culture and the Government of the Canary Islands, has just finished filming in the Canary Islands.

It is a road movie with touches of black humor starring Pablo Molinero (“La peste”), Mero González “(Lo dejo cuando quiera”, “Valeria”), Isak Férriz (“Gigantes”), Antonia San Juan (“Todo sobre mi madre”, “El hoyo”) and Itziar Castro (“Vis a vis”).

“Lo carga el diablo” centers on Tristan, a frustrated writer who makes a living from writing the inspirational phrases on sugar packets. His routine life will change the day he accepts, under mysterious circumstances, to transport the frozen body of his conflictive brother Simon, from Asturias to Benidorm to fulfill his last wish: to be buried in the house where they both grew up.

He will soon discover that the obstacles and the different characters he will have to face in this strange journey, are perhaps his last chance to live a real experience, and, above all, to leave behind his pathetic conformism.

Producers Clara Santaolaya and Gerard Rodríguez have defined the film as “an Iberian road trip” that may remind us of the Coen brothers, “Wild Heart” or “Airbag”.

“Lo carga el diablo” participated prominently in CIIF Market (Canary Islands International Film Market) in its edition of 2019under the name “Pobre diablo” (Poor devil), being recognized with the Music Library & SFX Music Synchronization Award and also as a finalist of the CIIF Market Award for the project with the greatest international projection. Subsequently, it has had an extensive tour and mentions in festivals, markets and forums such as Austin Film Festival, FilmarketHub, MAFIZ Malaga, Cinema Jove Co-Production Forum, Abycine Lanza and Valencia Picht Forum, among others.

The film has been shot in Valencia, Alicante, Soria, Teruel and in recent weeks in different locations in Tenerife, where the director of CIIF Market, Guillermo Ríos, has come to congratulate the crew members for the completion of filming and wish them every success.
